WILLIAMS LAKE (July 9, 2018) – The BC Liberals’ Critic for Rural Development says the NDP government should have done more to prevent today’s announcement by Greyhound that it is cutting all of its B.C. service.
“Instead of taking action to reduce the added costs that are hurting many businesses, including transportation companies— the government has sat on its hands,” says Donna Barnett, MLA for Cariboo-Chilcotin. “Now local seniors, students and families are losing access to a safe, reliable mode of transportation. It’s completely unacceptable.”
Barnett notes the decision will have far-reaching impacts.
“People need that bus service to get to important medical appointments, or to travel to classes or to visit family,” says Barnett. “It’s also very worrying to see a company entirely ceasing operations in our province.
“This government needs to create the economic condition for business to succeed— not leave.”
